Graphic Match

Graphic Match

Graphic match or known as a match cut is editing between two different objects. It can help connect disconnected scenes. It can also establish relationship between two objects. By combing same composition and size with a smooth transition you can make a really good graphic match.

This is an example from the movie psycho. The clip shows a good example of a graphic match. Where the film maker uses the water going down the drain hole to connect the victims eye. It could show the victims life being drained away. As the camera moves closer to the whole the transition takes place to the iris of the victims eye.
